Forget the action-adventure of the 90s. Lee Cronin (of Evil Dead Rise fame) has officially released his R-rated reimagining of The Mummy, and it is nightmare fuel.
I’ve interviewed Lee a few times, and he’s always had a knack for making you feel “physically drained” by his films. This isn’t Brendan Fraser with a torch; it’s a visceral, claustrophobic body-horror that feels more like The Thing than an Indiana Jones riff. Jack Reynor and May Calamawy carry the film through some of the most unsettling practical effects I’ve seen in a decade. If you’re looking for a “date movie,” maybe check the rating first. This one bites.
