The Review:
Marvel finally did it. They captured the spirit of the 1960s “Space Age” optimism and blended it with the high-stakes drama of the MCU. First Steps feels less like a superhero movie and more like a period-piece sci-fi adventure. The design work here is the standout—everything from the retro UI of the Baxter Building to the sleek, white uniforms feels intentional and stylized.
Pascal’s Reed Richards is a masterclass in “absent-minded genius,” but the standout for me was Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The pain and humanity he conveys through the rock-like prosthetics (and CGI) is heart-wrenching. The film deals with the idea of family—not the one you’re born with, but the one you’re forged with in the face of cosmic dread. Galactus is handled with a scale that actually feels threatening, but the movie never loses sight of the four people at its center. It’s a bright, hopeful, and beautifully designed “first step.”
Viewer Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) – The MCU’s most stylish and soulful entry in years.
