The Review:
If there is a show that speaks directly to the “designer’s soul,” it is Severance. Season 2, which premiered in early 2025, doubled down on the minimalist, brutalist aesthetic that made the first season a cult classic. The hallways of Lumon Industries are a nightmare of symmetry and “Teal” lighting. Every frame is composed with such surgical precision that it makes the viewer feel just as trapped as the characters.
Ben Stiller’s direction remains some of the best in the business. The narrative explores the ethics of “work-life balance” taken to its most horrific extreme. In Season 2, we finally see more of the “Outie” world, which is graded in cold, desaturated tones that contrast sharply with the vibrant, unsettling primary colors inside the office. It’s a surrealist journey that asks uncomfortable questions about identity: if you don’t remember your pain, did it ever happen? It is the most stylish, intellectually stimulating show currently on air.
