The film’s direction leans into the “thriller” genre more than “action,” utilizing the isolation of the sea and jungle to create a claustrophobic tension. The cinematography is heavy on shadows and desaturated tones, making the dinosaurs feel like looming, prehistoric monsters again rather than theme park attractions. The dynamic between Johansson and Ali is the secret sauce here; their “pro” efficiency makes the moments when things go wrong feel much more dangerous. It’s a gritty, focused entry that respects the legacy while carving its own path.
